About

Jon Mullen in front of the Sydney Opera House

Hi, I'm Jon.

My photography journey started when my wife made a simple request that we should get a "good" camera for a trip to Costa Rica in January 2021. I came home unable to put it down. There's the constant struggle for a "perfect" shot that makes this practice so rewarding when it lands.

I live in Dripping Springs, TX with my wife and 3 cats. Central Texas sits right in the bi-annual migration corridor, so we spend a lot of time chasing warblers through the hills and down to the gulf coast when it's not blazing hot outside.

I bring my camera along for any trips that we have, since you never know what may pop out wandering around a new city. I mix a run-and-gun street photography approach with technical composition and lighting. I don't use AI to edit my photos, as I want the shot to feel like it did when I was standing there. I keep adjustments minimal, just enough to match what I saw.

I carry the Sony A7RV for wildlife and the A74 for street, swapping between the 35mm GM, 70-200GM II, and 200-600G depending on the day.

My goal is simple: to bring the world to your wall. Not a decoration, a portal. Something that makes you feel like you could step through it onto a beach in Turks and Caicos or into a cafe on narrow cobblestone street.
